Sledding Hills, Outdoor Ice Skating, and Cross Country Skiing Areas

Find the perfect place for your family's winter snow fun in North, Northeast and East Columbus

March 6, 2021

It looks like we will actually have snow this year! So I've created a sledding hills resource article focusing on the North, Northeast and East Columbus areas so that you can find the perfect place to go. I've also added outdoor ice skating locations and some cross-country skiing places, which is something I have been thinking about doing with my kids as I used to do it a lot as a kid. If you know of a hill that is a hidden gem, please let me know. We'll keep adding more sites as we find them ourselves, and as you share with us too (thanks!). Enjoy the winter snow fun!

For more local kid and family activities, see our CALENDAR or subscribe to get the free weekly eNewsletter and stay in the know with everything kid and family fun happening in your area!

**Please note: I cannot know if a sledding hill, outside ice skating area, or cross-country skiing location will be open when you visit it. You need to check first.**

Sledding Hills:

Alum Creek Park North (Westerville): 221 W. Main St. There is a medium hill, with some small {fun} bumps in the NE corner of the park (bordering Main St.), as well as a small slope down to into the park which runs along the entrance road that is perfect for younger kids (my kids still love it).

Blendon Woods (Westerville): 4265 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. For kids only: turn right at ranger station and continue to dead end. Check their Facebook page or call 614-891-0700 for hill status.

Sharon Woods Metro Park (Westerville): the sled hill entrance is just north of the park's main entrance on Cleveland Avenue (There's a sign that says "sledding hill") – it’s easy to miss, so keep an eye out. There are two hills, one for children 10 and under, and a larger hill. Check their Facebook page or call 614-891-0700 for hill status. We love this sledding hill!

Hoover Dam Park (Westerville): 7705 Cubbage Rd – east side of the Dam. (This is not Hoover Reservoir – sledding is not permitted there)

Gahanna Golf Course (Gahanna), 220 Ridenour Rd. 614-342-4270

Huntley Bowl Park (Worthington), 6199 Huntley Rd. Newly created sledding hill (2016)!

Olentangy River Parkland (Worthington): 600 W. Wilson Bridge Rd.

Park Boulevard Park (Worthington): 125 Park Blvd.

Highbanks Metro Park (Lewis Center): 9466 Rt. 23 N – once you enter the park just east of the Big Meadows Picnic Area there are two areas on the hill. Check their Facebook page or call 614-891-0700 for hill status. We love this sledding hill!

Schneider Park (Bexley): 2115 Astor Ave. (western end of Astor – south of Main)

Jeffrey Park (Bexley): 165 N. Parkview Ave.

Miller’s Hill (Bexley): I’ve read about this several places – it seems to be a renowned sledding hill – but can’t find the address (I’ll keep looking). This is private property, however they have a provision in their deed to allow sledding so they are open to public sledding (it would appear).

Blacklick Woods Golf Course (Reynoldsburg): 7309 E. Livingston Ave. There is a big hill on the golf course for sledding. Check their Facebook page or call 614-891-0700 for hill status.

Gallant Woods Preserve (Delaware): 2151 Buttermilk Hill Rd. Buttermilk Hill sledding hill. Call 740-524-8600 for hill status.
