Description

The layout for the Worthington Independence Day celebration will be different this year. Due to construction at Thomas Worthington High School, the front lawn event space and viewing area are not available.

Event partners have made adjustments for the celebration to continue with a different footprint on the high school grounds. The Rotary Family Picnic, presented by the Dublin Worthington Rotary, will take place on the baseball field to the north of the high school, and the viewing area for the fireworks will be shifted to the grassy area to the south of the football field and track, in addition to the stadium bleacher seating. There will be no seating on the front lawn of the high school. Restrooms will be available in both the stadium and family picnic areas.

Walk or Bike to the Event

This event is tailored to people walking or biking to the area. Parking is extremely limited with even fewer spots available due to construction. Accessible parking is available for people with limited mobility in designated spots on the western edge of the parking lot just outside the entrance to the stadium. The spots will be marked with signage and cones. Police officers will direct people needing accessible parking to the designated spots.

A bike corral will be available for people to safely park their bikes for the duration of the event, thanks to a generous donation from Franklinton Cycle Works – A nonprofit Community Bike Shop. The corral is free and will be located at the northern edge of the parking lot just east of the stadium. It will be open beginning at 4:30 p.m. Bicyclists are urged to use caution while navigating the pedestrian areas and walk their bikes inside the event area, if possible.

If you must drive, please park outside of the high school area and walk or bike to the event site. Municipal parking lots in the downtown area will be available, including those located at the Griswold Center, Worthington United Methodist Church, and off West New England Avenue. People walking and biking are encouraged to bring a flashlight to help provide for safe exit after dark and be prepared for wet weather conditions. The events take place rain or shine, with the exception of severe thunderstorms, lightning and wind. See the Weather Information section for more details.
