Apricot Twist

A Twist from your typical Christmas cookies

By Kelly Rostorfer December 14, 2022

Better Homes and Garden's Apricot Twist cookies are one of my favorites. They are more like a pastry than a cookie. You won't be able to resist the flaky dough paired with apricot and mace for the winter holiday season.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 of ground mace
  • 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 3/4 cup of butter
  • 6 tablespoons of ice water
  • 1/4 teaspoon of lemon extract
  • 1/4 of apricot preserves. (This recipe is also really good with pineapple preserves)
  • Milk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375
  2. Stir together flour, sugar, salt, mace and baking powder
  3. Cute in butter until you have coarse crumbs
  4. Combine 1 tablespoon of ice water and lemon extract and sprinkle over part of the mixture and gently toss with a fork and push to the side of the bowl
  5. Repeat with remaining water, one tablespoon at a time till all dry ingredients are moistened
  6. Form into a ball
  7. Cover and chill for 30-60 minutes or until easy to handle
  8. Divide dough into quarters
  9. Roll 2 of the quarters into 12x4inch rectangles and spread with the preserves
  10. Roll the remaining 2 quarters into 12x4 inch rectangles and carefully place over those spread with preserves. Trim the edges
  11. Cut each rectangle into 12 strips.
  12. Twist each strip twice
  13. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes
  14. Remove and brush with milk then sprinkle with additional sugar
  15. Bake for 5-8 more minutes
  16. ENJOY with Family
