World Communication week is this week! With the holidays right around the corner, this is an important time of the year to connect with family and friends. After all, we are not able to have any form of relationship without communication. Every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas we see a rush of individuals that come into our office to for professional hearing help. Thanksgiving dinner is an exceptionally difficult holiday for family members with hearing loss. The dinner table is typically surrounded by several people, with multiple conversations and usually surround noise. For a loved one with hearing loss this can be challenging, frustrating and simply exhausting! What are some common symptoms of hearing loss?

  • Difficulty understanding speech in noisy environments (car, restaurants, groups, places of worship etc.)
  • Feeling like people are mumbling, unclear or “dropping off at the end of a sentence”
  • Asking for repetition
  • Can hear, but cannot understand
  • Family members feel your TV or radio is too loud
  • Withdrawing from conversation or social settings
  • Ringing, hissing, buzzing noise in ears
