While your family may not feel safe dining in yet, consider a take out order for home or a breakfast picnic at a local park.
My kids and my husband love to go out to breakfast on a weekend morning. I can't say I often tell them no.
After all, what’s not to love about breakfast? No matter what kind of breakfast you’re in the mood for -- the sweet or the savory -- you can find it on the East Side of Columbus.
Plus … breakfast has Waffles!
And don’t even get me started on Mimosas!
Hungry for breakfast yet?
I am! So I've rounded up my family's choices for the top five breakfast spots on the North East side of Columbus, along with the reasons that my family loves them. I've listed them in alphabetical order:
Delaney’s Diner
6150 E. Main St, Columbus Oh 614-626-2006
Hours:
6:30AM- 2:30 PM Mon-Fri
7:00AM-3:00PM Sat-Sun
What we love: This cozy diner has 2 locations, Reynoldsburg and Westerville. While we are closer to Reynoldsburg, both are fantastic. All the standards and some very unique dishes. The Breakfast Conewich is just as much a feast for the eyes as it is your taste buds. The fluffiest eggs served up in a cone that is a cross between a pretzel and buttery toast. Its unlike anything else in Columbus. My kids love to go to Delaney’s for the French Toast. The sweet Challah bread in a vanilla batter is perfect for the sweet tooth. With fresh coffee that does not stop and service that can’t be beat, you will leave happy. The full breakfast and lunch menu are served at any time they are open.
Donna’s Delicious Dozen
5322 N. Hamilton Rd, Columbus, OH; 614-245-4859
Hours:
6:00AM-5:00PM Mon-Fri
8:00AM-5:00PM Sat-Sun
What we love: You cannot talk about breakfast and not mention donuts. I’m actually not a donut person but one stop at Donna’s changed that. Donuts are made fresh while you watch and topped with an endless combination of toppings. So much fun for the kids to watch their creation made right before their eyes. My favorite is the Strawberry Cheese Cake and my kids love the Feelin’ Frutylicious. There are plenty of tables to sit and enjoy your breakfast treat. Rushed for time? You can place your order online and have it ready when you get there!
Northstar Cafe
4015 Townsfair Way, Columbus, Oh; 614-532-5444
Hours:
9:00 AM-10:00 Daily
Breakfast 9-11 Daily
Brunch 11-3 Sat-Sun
What we love: Brunch at Northstar is a Columbus rite of passage. The menu has something for everyone and feels upscale yet comfortable. My favorites are the Big Burrito and the Mushroom Frittata. My kiddos love the ricotta pancakes and the Egg & Cheese Quesadilla. Try the Blueberry Buckle from the bakery and do yourself a favor and grab a Dark Chocolate Cookie to go!
Sunny Street Cafe
6607 E. Broad St, Columbus Oh; 614-694-2214
Hours:
6:30AM- 2:30 PM Mon-Sun
What we love: This regional chain earns a spot in my top 5 because of its unique dishes and variety. For savory, I like the Migas Breakfast Tacos. When I get a sweet tooth, the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes cannot be beat. Unless you ask my kiddo, who is obsessed with the Dinosaur Pancake. And yes, it is shaped like a giant Dinosaur! The specialty muffins are great-we cannot pass up the Banana Leche. I love how personable and attentive the staff is at this Sunny Street Café location. The service is wonderful!
SuperChef’s Breakfast & More
1344 Cherry Bottom Rd. Gahanna, OH; 614-532-8030
Hours:
7-4 Tues-Sun
What we love: SuperChef’s is a fun breakfast, brunch or lunch spot for kids and kids at heart. My kids love the superhero theme and I love the pure art that is the menu. The Superpancakes are thick and dense, packed with flavor. Go hungry and get the OG Pancake Platter to split with the table. 4 Unique tastes, something for everyone. My husband loves the “Hulk” super waffle. Yes, its green and with Bacon involved, he is happy. The kids go with the “Batman” and the “Flash” and we all leave Super happy!
Bonus Honorable mention:
Nutcracker Family Restaurant
63 E Broad Street, Pataskala, OH; 740-964-0056
Hours:
7:00AM-2:00PM Sun-Mon
7:00 AM-8:00 PM Tues-Sat
What we love: Relive the 1950’s in this small family-owned diner. Great for families and groups. The throwback décor will give the kiddos tons of things to look at as they are waiting for their food. You will feel like family with friendly faces treating you like a regular from the first moment you walk in the door. Breakfast is served all day with all the basics plus a few surprises. The Banana Nut Bread French Toast is a special splurge or lighten up with an egg white Omelette. The grilled Cinnamon Roll is a must.
Hungry yet? Me too. Time for breakfast.
