If you have ever entered a Goldfish Swim School (GSS), you know that a love for swimming and kids abounds. The brightly colored facility is designed specifically for the best experience for kids in mind, and the employees are passionate about what they do.  In fact, the instructors are one of the differences that sets Goldfish Swim School apart.  So, we thought it would be a great idea to feature our fabulous instructors and their passion for swimming and teaching children.  Every month you will get to meet a Goldfish Swim School Westerville employee and find out what they love best about their job, as well as a little about them personally too.

Meet Mindy Heffner, Manger of Goldfish Swim School Westerville

When did you start at GSS: August 2014 (originally at Goldfish Swim School Dublin)

Favorite Part of Working at GSS: My favorite part of working at Goldfish is knowing what we do has a direct impact in these children’s lives. Hearing the success stories straight from the families makes what we do so worth it.

Funny/Cute Story About a Swimmer/Family: When I was in the water teaching more often, I had MULTIPLE parents tell me about how their child would be in the bathtub, pretending to be me. They would say “I’m Miss Mindy, catch your bubble!” Knowing that the small half hour a week I would see some of these children meant so much; that's what it’s all about.

Best Part of Your Day: Loving what I do and loving who I do it with. The Goldfish family is unlike any other. I would not be the person I am today without this amazing place and these phenomenal people.

Favorite Level to Teach and Why: Junior 3. The children in this level are comfortable enough to swim independently, but still young enough to enjoy and play along with the theme. I love being there for the moment that they swim across the width of the pool for the very first time. You really see their confidence skyrocket in this level.

Favorite Theme of the Month and Why: Outer space! Last November, it was so much fun to see which planet my students wanted to blast off to! We ended up spending a lot of time at both Pizza Planet and Cookie Planet.

Favorite Thing To Do Outside of GSS: Play with my new puppy, Dash! We’re still working on quite a bit of training, but he is my very first pet that doesn’t live in a fishbowl. He makes each one of my days so exciting.

Favorite Disney Movie and Why: This is a more recent favorite, but Zootopia! While it shows that you can be anything you dream of being, it has a great amount of humor in it. I mean, it has a sloth named Flash!
