I can still see the smile on my son's face. The smile that comes from the inside out, you know the kind. He was standing in the middle of a group of his friends, laughing and joking about their bowling scores while munching on pizza at his birthday party. I could see that he was soaking it all in and truly enjoying and living in the moment which, for a very shy kid, is a huge deal. And standing quietly off to the side, my husband and I were enjoying watching it all. The fact that we didn't have to clean up our house before and after the party was also huge enjoyable moment for us as well (just being honest here!).
Having three children, we've had a lot of birthday parties over the years; inside our home, in our backyard and at a variety of local venues. In December, we hosted our son's birthday party at Star Lanes Polaris. If you are unfamiliar, Star Lanes is an upscale bowling experience, which blends bowling with high-end technology and amenities. It includes state-of-the art lanes, billiards, dining and an arcade. Basically, it's a kid's dream place for parties, or just everyday fun. That goes for boys and girls alike and of all ages.
Our experience at Star Lanes was likely the best birthday party experience that we have had thus far. The facility was very clean and the staff was very friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. They went above and beyond to ensure that our son's experience was memorable and special. Our fabulous server made sure that the food and drinks, which were served lane-side (very cool!) during bowling, were bottomless, without a word from any of us. It was like magic. Trust me, that is no small feat when you are talking about 14 boys! The best part, I thought, was that unlike many other birthday party venues, the kids really had time to interact with one another and have fun, along with a little very friendly competition. It was truly a group activity, instead of one where they just scattered and never spoke to each other.
After our hour of bowling, we moved to the party room where everything was set up for us. The ice cream cake we had brought was waiting for us, fresh from the freezer (again, without even a word from us). The remaining food from our lane-side tables had magically appeared in the room with full pitchers of drinks. Serving utensils were there for us as well (a nice surprise), and our server helped us with everything. After cake, we gave the boys game cards (part of the party package we chose), to their delight, and they had a good half an hour of fun in the arcade. It was, my son proclaimed, "the best birthday party ever." Based on the comments we overheard from his friends, they all agreed.
From a parent perspective, the party was seamless, easy and fun. How often can that be said? It was honestly the first party where my husband and I just sat back and enjoyed it. There was nothing else for us to do, but to just watch and enjoy our son's day. And that, my friends, is priceless.
