Did you know that February 10th - 16th is Random Acts of Kindness Week? It's a week where we encourage everyone to commit to a daily act of kindness, thus showering the world with love, little by little.
It makes me think of the movie "Pay It Forward" where the little boy starts a chain of good deeds, helping three people who in turn each help three more people, and so on. What a great idea and one that always gets me inspired when it's brought to mind.
So this week, I'm bringing it to you a little nudge to act kindly, and encourage your kids to do the same. Whether it be giving a Valentine to a nursing home resident, bringing someone a meal, paying for the order behind you in the Starbuck's drive-through (still waiting for this one to happen to me!), swing cookies by your local fire or police station, forgive someone who has wronged you or holding the door open for a stranger. There are plenty of things you and your kids could do to spread some love this week.
If you're looking for ideas on how to spread a little bit of kindness, click here to browse through the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation's database. You can also click here to see 10 kindness ideas, like just smile at one extra person, or eat lunch with a new person at school or at the office. There are many more simple ideas for both kids and adults. This week, shoveling a neighbor's driveway or sidewalk might be a really good idea too.
I love that there is a week dedicated to doing "random acts of kindness." But, let's also remember that it doesn't just have to end with this week. We can continue to do this throughout the year and really make a difference...one kind deed at a time.
