Sunday was a beautiful fall day, perfect for pumpkin farm family fun. And that we had, in abundance. We spent a few hours at one of our favorite pumpkin farms - Pigeon Roost Farm - enjoying everything fall, fun and family. My kids love this farm because there is just so much to do. My husband and I love this farm because it is nicely laid out in a vast space that never feels overcrowded, AND that there is just so much to do. We've given it the Macaroni Kid Seal of Approval, read more to find out the details and see photos.
We’ve been going to this farm, just east of Columbus, for a few years and the kids look forward to it every year. With their impressive list of fun activities, as I mentioned above, it’s hard not to get excited about going to this farm. Just see for yourself:
- Giant gerbil wheels
- The Enchanted Forest with Obstacle Course and Lydia's Treehouse
- Hillside Rooster Racers and Turkey Tube Slide (big slides, big fun)
- Corn Maze
- Fort with slide (full size fort)
- Black Mamba (kids love this)
- Pigeon Roost Football Throw
- Spinning Wheel of Fortune
- Baseball toss
- Basketball toss
- Cornhole
- Hop-a-Long Corral
- Creepy Teepee Crawl (not scary)
- Spooky Straw Tunnel (not scary)
- Duck races
- Soybean Maze for the younger kids
- Rocking horses
- Many slides for little ones, and big Rainbow swing set
- Corn wagon (big corn sandbox)
- Toddler Town (for ages 3 and under)
- Many barnyard animals (some you can feed)
- And so much more (check their website HERE)!
Pigeon Roost really has something for all ages, from toddler and up. And it's open seven days a week from 10am to 7pm through October 31st!
The boys love the giant gerbil wheels and could, and do, spend a lot of time in them. What’s nice about these is that the gerbil wheels are sectioned off with large logs so that there is only one per section so that the tubes do not bump into other tubes. Though that can be fun too (bumping) it can also cause some issues. The tubes are also on flat land, which is nice if you are the parent pushing, or if your kids are old enough to get it to move themselves, but not uphill!
Another favorite is the Enchanted Forest, which you walk through some impressively high corn to enter. Once there, you find a rope balance beam, a wood balance beam, a wall to climb up and over, Lydia’s tree house with slide, and a giant log (fallen tree) which is fun to walk on, a tire serpent, a few photo spots (wood paintings with face cut outs), and a couple tire swings.
Being that I have boys, another their favorite is the Black Mamba, which are two tubes (like the gerbil wheels but smaller diameter and much longer) suspended which you can crawl in or swing on. Naturally their favorite is to have one or two crawl in the tube and one or two on it swinging it around.
New this year, they had a Hop-A-Long Corral, which was a big area full of hippity hops of a few different sizes. For for the kids only! They also added a new football toss, to go with their baseball and basketball toss, where we enjoyed some friendly family competitions (my six year olds beat me!).
The corn maze was fun this year - it was cut into crop circles. It's a nice sized maze, with very tall corn and quite fun if you are up for the challenge. I took a photo of the maze before going in, just in case (we got lost one year - LOL!) and it came in handy for some reference points. If your children are all younger, they have a great soy bean maze which is short enough to see through.
The hayride is a nice narrated tour of the farm, which tells you the story of the farm, what they grow and some other fun facts. It includes the scenery you'd expect on an 80-acre pumpkin farm.
Admission is only $6 per person, and children under 2 are free, and includes all the activities listed above, except the hayride (scenic tours of the farm) which is $3 per person, and face painting for $2 per person.
There are concessions and kettle corn for sale, as well as a huge farm market with pumpkins, a variety of winter squash, many unique gourds and pumpkins of all kinds, honey from the farm, fall and Halloween decorations, costumes and much, much more. The farm accepts credit cards for all purchases.
They are located at 4413 National Rd. SW, Hebron - which is just a couple exits east of 270 on Interstate 70. You can call them at 740-928-4925.
You can check out their website HERE, and their Facebook page HERE.
Some photos of the farm are below - there are many more on their website, showing activities we haven't shown below, so be sure to check there too. I tried to get one shot that took in most of the activities, but really it is just so big that you can't get it in one shot - and to me, that is a wonderful asset of this farm!
